Your impact

Knack Works is seeking a qualified and highly motivated Junior to Mid-Level Network engineer to support the design, implementation and maintenance of our network infrastructure in the Chantilly, VA office.  The role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in routing, switching and firewall technologies who enjoys designing and developing technical networks.

Duties/Task and Responsibilities

Collaborate with a team of engineers to design, implement and test features and functionality to support Knack Works’ high performance computing products

Interact with customers to gather requirements and help develop use cases 

Assist in the design and planning of network communication systems

Provide specification documentation and detailed schematics for network architecture 

Develop and define techniques and tools to support the most efficient solution to meet program needs

Conduct testing of network design and implementation

Maintain and provide technical expertise in all areas of hardware (network and computer), software interconnections, and interfaces such as routers, firewalls, switches, bridges, gateways, etc.

Troubleshoot network connectivity, performance, and security issues

Upgrade and implement improvements to the entire network system for the supported programs

Support LAN/WAN, VLANs, VPNs, and basic QoS configurations

Perform hardware installation, cabling coordination, and device turn-ups

Maintain accurate network documentation, including:

Network diagrams and drawings

IP addressing schemes

Device configurations and inventories

Follow change management and implementation best practices

Collaborate with systems, security, and support teams as needed

Here's what you'll need

1 to 4 years of hands-on network engineering or network support experience with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Network Engineering or related field

Solid understanding of:

Routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP basics)

Switching technologies (VLANs, STP, trunking)

Firewall concepts and rule management

Experience with installation and implementation of network hardware

Familiarity with common networking vendors (e.g., Cisco, Palo Alto, Juniper, etc.)

Ability to create and maintain clear technical documentation

Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving and analytical skills

Good communication and collaborations skills with the ability to work in a team environment

Experience with LAN/WAN operations and protocols

Experience working in development and operational networking environments

A current active TS with SCI eligibility and willingness to take a polygraph exam

Ability to obtain a CompTIA Security+ CE certification within the first 6 months of employment

Desired Requirements:

VMware vSphere configuration and maintenance experience

A valid CompTIA Security+ CE certification

Network certifications (CCNA, Network+, or equivalent)

Experience with:

VPN technologies (site-to-site and remote access)

Wireless networking

Network monitoring tools

Exposure to cloud networking (AWS, Azure or similar)

Experience working in an enterprise or multi-site environment

110,000.00

Posted Salary Range: Upper

160,000.00

The base salary range for this position is $110,000.00 to $160,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
