Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Design Branch Chief (a Senior Transportation Engineer), the incumbent will provide support and assist the Senior Transportation Engineer with activities required to deliver Major Maintenance and Capital projects. The incumbent is responsible for preparing plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) for a variety of Highway Maintenance (HM), SB1, and Capital Minor B funded projects. Other duties may include the preparation of Project Initiation Documents (PIDs) for various HM and SB1 State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP) rehabilitation projects. Incumbent may also be loaned to construction as an inspector on HM projects. This position requires working independently and as a team member to complete assignments.

For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Working Conditions

Position located at 1604 S B St Stockton, San Joaquin County. 
Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.

This is a remote working / office (hybrid position). Subject to ongoing negotiations, the projected schedule can range from two (2) to three (3) days in the office and two (2) to three (3) working from home.

At home, the incumbent will be will be working at a desk with two monitors, a laptop, docking station, and web-cam.

The incumbent will work at workstations within shared cubicles primarily in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting. Building temperatures may fluctuate due to unexpected heating and air conditioning problems.

The incumbent may be required to travel in one-day trips as well as overnight trips and occasionally be exposed to a variety of altering weather conditions (extreme cold or hot weather) and various terrain.

In addition to the Caltrans Transportation Engineer (Civil) Rotation Program, an incumbent may be required to go on loan to another project delivery function when there are temporary or peak staffing needs in those areas.

Special Requirements

• Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. For all other ranges, a PE license is not required.

Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) required.

Statement of Qualifications - the SOQ is to be no more than two pages in size, describing how the applicant's work history and educational background make them the ideal candidate for the position. Failure to include a SOQ will disqualify the applicant from being considered for the position.

1. Describe your educational and/or work experience in preparing Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E), in particular CAD experience.

2. Describe your experience with Roadway Maintenance Engineering work or similar projects.

3. Describe any major achievements that have developed you in preparation for this position and your goals with D10 Maintenance Design Unit.
